Do you want to post on Instagram, but don't want to use any images? This wikiHow will show you how to create a text-only Instagram story on your Android, iPhone, or iPad. Sharing a text-only image on Instagram is only possible when using Instagram Stories. If you want to share a text-only image to your standard Feed, you'll need to use a third-party app to create your text image, save it to your camera roll, and then upload that image to Instagram.

  1. 1
Open Instagram. The app icon is a camera inside a square that’s a gradient from yellow to purple. You can find this on your home screen, in the app drawer, or by searching.
  2. 2
Swipe from left to right to open your Stories camera. You can also tap the camera icon or your profile picture in the top left corner of your screen.[1]
  3. 3
Swipe until Create is active. At the bottom of your screen, you'll see the different Story modes you can use. To post only text, make sure you're in the "Create" mode.
  4. 4
Swipe until "Aa" is active. Just above the Story Mode panel, you'll see the different types of "Create" styles you can use. You can use Shoutouts, GIFS, On This Day, Templates, Poll, Questions, Donations, Countdown, and Quiz as well as text.
    • Once you have "Aa" selected, you'll see a plain colored background and a prompt for you to "Tap to type."
  5. 5
Tap where it says "Tap to type." Your keyboard will activate and the text will change to "Type something."
  6. 6
Type your post. You can change the font style by tapping the heading at the top of your screen that says either Classic, Modern, Neon, Typewriter, or Strong. If you tap the lines in the upper left corner of your screen, you can change the text alignment in your post.[2]
  7. 7
Tap Next. You'll see this in the upper right corner of your screen and will be directed to the next part of creating your post.
  8. 8
Edit your post (if you want to). On this page, you'll see icons and options along the top and bottom of your screen.
    • You can change the color of the background by tapping the color swatch along the top of your screen.
    • You can download the post to your phone by tapping the download icon.
    • You can add stickers, drawings, and more text to your image by tapping the smiley face on a sticker icon, the squiggly line, and the "Aa" icon.
  9. 9
Tap Your Stories or Send to. If you want to post the Story to your Instagram account and your Facebook account, tap "Your Stories" and it will be an instant process.
    • Tap "Send to" if you want to send your text Story to specific people on Instagram.[3]

It's an option that's only available in Story mode. The camera has changed now, so make sure the bottom selection is "Story" and you'll see the option for "Create" on the left side of your screen.
